❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for the team.

This page answers common questions about Queensland’s Reportable Conduct Scheme and what to do at Gold Coast Montessori.

If you are unsure, report the concern internally.

What is Reportable Conduct?

Reportable conduct includes sexual offences, physical abuse, significant emotional or psychological harm, significant neglect, and certain serious inappropriate conduct towards a child, even if not criminal. It involves conduct by employees, volunteers, or contractors.

What if I’m not sure?

You do not need proof. If you have a reasonable suspicion or concern that conduct may have occurred, you must report it. It is better to report a concern that turns out to be unfounded than to stay silent.

Who do I tell?

Report all concerns immediately to the Principal or the designated Child Safety Officer at Gold Coast Montessori. We have a legal obligation to manage these reports and notify the relevant authorities.

What if the concern is about my supervisor?

If your concern involves your direct supervisor or the Principal, you should report directly to the Board of Directors or use the external reporting channels outlined in our Whistleblower Policy.

Can I tell the child’s family?

Confidentiality is critical. Do not contact the family or the child until instructed by the Principal or the Board. Premature contact can jeopardise investigations and the privacy of all involved parties.

Should I investigate?

No. Your role is to report, not to investigate or interview witnesses. The school and authorities will conduct a formal investigation following specific legal protocols to ensure fairness and compliance.

What if it happened years ago?

The Reportable Conduct Scheme covers historical allegations as well. If you become aware of a concern that happened in the past while the person was an employee or volunteer, you must still report it.

What records should I keep?

Make a clear, factual record of what you saw or heard, including dates, times, and names. Use neutral language. Keep this record secure and provide it only to the Principal or designated officers.

What if the person resigns?

Resignation does not stop the process. The school must still complete the investigation and notify the relevant oversight bodies (like the Office of the Public Guardian or QCT) as per legal requirements.

Where can I learn more?
